Itinerary:
Hos geldiniz! Welcome!
At 10:00 AM, you will be picked up from your hotel and we'll board our ferry to Uskudar (from Eminonu pier). Upon arrival, we will spend about 20 minutes walking along the Bosphorus and take in the amazing views of the European side - you'll love the different perspective of Galata Tower, and Dolmabahce Palace. Then, we will board a small boat and cruise over to Maiden's Tower (Kiz Kulesi) and will have some free time to take in the breathtaking views of Istanbul.
We'll then take a small boat back to the European Side, and we'll take you back to your hotel.
* Uskudar is Istanbul's oldest-established residential suburb and still fills that role today. It has a more relaxed atmosphere than the more crowded European side of the city, yet is directly opposite the hustle and bustly of Eminonu, Beyoglu and Besiktas. Usküdar also has the smell of the sea, the sound of foghorns, motorboats, and, of course, the ever-present seagulls.
The area behind Uskudar's ferry dock is a busy shopping district (carsi) with many restaurants (including the famous Kanaat Lokantasi, which serves Ottoman cuisine, olive oil-based dishes (zeytinyagli), and ice cream) and a number of important Ottoman-era mosques. However, there are relatively few cafes, cinemas, billiard halls, and places for youth to congregate.
* Maiden's Tower (Kiz Kulesi): was built by the Athenian general Alcibiades in 408 BC to control the movements of the Persian ships in the Bosphorus. Back then, the tower was located between the ancient cities of Byzantium and Chrysopolis. The tower was later expanded and rebuilt as a fortress by the Byzantine emperor Alexius Comnenus in 1110 AD, and was restored and slightly modified several times by the Ottoman Turks, most significantly in 1509 and 1763. The most recent facelift was made in 1998. Steel supports were added around the ancient tower as a precaution after the August 1999 earthquake.
Used as a lighthouse for centuries, the interior of the tower has been transformed into a popular café and restaurant, affording guests magnificent views of the former Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman capital.
